Chinese New Year Celebrations at ELTE Radnóti Miklós Primary and Secondary School

2026. January 23.

On 23 January, ELTE Radnóti Miklós Primary and Secondary School was filled with a festive atmosphere. As part of the school’s Asian Cultural Festival, the ELTE Confucius Institute introduced visitors to the traditions of Chinese New Year, ahead of the arrival of the Year of the Fire Horse.

Our teachers, Wang Xiaoyang, Wang Yilin and Kang Lei, offered a range of engaging and interactive activities for the approximately 200 students and parents attending the event.

During the paper-cutting workshop, Ms Wang Xiaoyang introduced students to the historical origins and common motifs of this traditional craft. She then helped them create their own auspicious New Year designs.

In the chopstick skills activity, Ms Wang Yilin used a variety of playful challenges to teach students how to pick up different objects with chopsticks.

At the calligraphy workshop, Ms Kang Lei demonstrated the techniques of Chinese calligraphy, explained the structure of Chinese characters and the basic rules of writing, and helped students write characters with positive and auspicious meanings.

The programme attracted considerable interest and took place in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. It offered participating students and parents an insight into the beauty and diversity of Chinese culture.
