Colourful Lunar New Year Celebrations at GOBUDA Mall

2026. February 21.

On 21 February, Chinese culture took centre stage at GOBUDA Mall, where a large-scale thematic Lunar New Year event was held in connection with the Chinese New Year. Visitors interested in Chinese culture were welcomed with an exciting programme featuring handicraft activities, gastronomic presentations, and musical and dance performances on stage. Teachers from the ELTE Confucius Institute contributed to the event with calligraphy and mahjong demonstrations, as well as a Chinese paper-cutting workshop.

On 17 February 2026, we entered the Year of the Fire Horse. In Chinese Lunar New Year traditions, various rituals and customs associated with good fortune play an important role. During the calligraphy workshop, our teachers therefore not only gave Chinese names to visi-tors, but also prepared several auspicious inscriptions traditionally used during the Lunar New Year. These were then hung by visitors on the wishing tree set up in the shopping centre.

During the stone-rubbing activity, participants received a lucky horse motif. In addition, they had the opportunity to learn about mahjong, the traditional Chinese game.
