Chinese New Year Festival in Budapest's Chinatown

2024. January 28.

This year, once again, the largest Chinese New Year Festival in the country took place in Budapest's Chinatown, organized in collaboration with the ELTE Confucius Institute.
On January 28, 2024, the first weekend of the Chinese New Year festival in Budapest's Chinatown was filled with festive atmosphere. The two-weekend event series kicked off with the presentation of the rich culture and traditions of Quanzhou city.

As a co-organizer, the ELTE Confucius Institute welcomed participants at two cultural stands, where they could try their hand at Chinese calligraphy and fold origami dragons. The program was highly popular, with attendees lining up eagerly in front of the stands.

Our most popular program was the creation of paper dragons, closely tied to the celebration of the Year of the Dragon. Under the guidance of our teachers, parents and children together brought colorful paper dragons to life. Within our calligraphy program, everyone could learn their own Chinese name and try out this artistic activity. Of course, many also requested auspicious wishes, such as symbols for happiness and luck.

The second weekend of the event series attracted even more visitors. Our institute offered several programs, including trying out the art of Chinese paper cutting, chopstick games, and the Chinese shuttlecock skill game.
