The ELTE Confucius Institute Chinese Painting Courses continue to be very popular

2023. April 20.

The ELTE Confucius Institute has wrapped up its current round of Chinese painting courses, which were divided into beginner and advanced classes taught by Hungarian calligrapher and typographer Janisz Horváth, a senior art lecturer at the Confucius Institute. The courses focused on ink wash landscape painting and provided students with not only technical knowledge but also cultural insights into traditional Chinese aesthetics and values.

The current round of Chinese painting courses at the ELTE Confucius Institute drew to a close in late April. As per usual, the course was divided into beginner and advanced classes based on the participants' skill levels. The two classes met for eight sessions each on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The beginner class had 14 participants, while the advanced class had nine.

The teaching for this round of courses was conducted by Mr. Horváth, a well-known Hungarian calligrapher. He has extensive knowledge of Chinese calligraphy and painting and has studied in China, giving him a deep understanding of Chinese culture. Since returning to Hungary, he has dedicated himself to promoting Chinese culture and has given numerous lectures on Chinese painting and calligraphy, receiving high praise from local Hungarian art enthusiasts. In his painting classes, students not only learn about Chinese painting techniques but also gain an understanding of the cultural content expressed through Chinese traditional aesthetics and values.

In past courses, Mr. Horváth has taught bamboo and plum blossom painting techniques. This round of courses focused on ink wash landscape painting, allowing students to experience the artistic concept of the unity of form and spirit and the harmony of scene and sentiment found in traditional Chinese landscape painting.
