Ink and Brush Book Launch and Exhibition

2022. September 29.

On September 29, a collection of works made by students of the ELTE Confucius Institute’s Ink and Brush art class was released.

The collection, titled Ink Danqing (Ink Painting), includes works from 23 painting and calligraphy courses offered by the Confucius Institute and also 15 exhibitions and two all-day workshops. The book includes not only the works of Janisz Horváth, the famous Hungarian calligrapher and painter and art teacher of the Confucius Institute, but also pieces created over the years by students of the painting and calligraphy class.

These works are a manifestation of the Confucius Institute's calligraphy and painting art curriculum, and they are also a testimony to the Hungarian people's deep understanding of Chinese culture.

The book launch was opened by a choral performance by students of ELTE University’s Conservatory of Music. Dr. Imre Hamar, vice-rector for international affairs of Eötvös Loránd University and the Hungarian director of the Confucius Institute, and Li Denggui, the Chinese director of the ELTE Confucius Institute, delivered speeches and congratulated each other. After a brief thank-you speech, Janisz Horváth discussed Chinese painting and calligraphy culture with Ágnes Kristály, the creator and editor of the book. Consequently, Dr. Imre Hamar and Janisz Horváth awarded honorary certificates to the artists whose works were included in the book.

Dorottya Janosi, who attended the press conference, expressed her gratitude to the Confucius Institute for organizing the course and publishing the collection of works.

She hopes to buy copies of the book for her relatives and friends, so that she can share her appreciation of the beauty of Chinese painting and calligraphy.

For many years, and especially recently, the ELTE Confucius Institute has insisted on art education while training local Chinese teachers.and has hired Hungarian experts to hold a series of interactive classes and activities, such as Chinese painting and calligraphy, Chinese Kungfu, hand knitting, and dragon and lion dancing, which are deeply loved by Hungarian people. In doing so, the institute has built a platform for cultural exchanges and mutual appreciation between China and Hungary.
