ELTE Confucius Institute certified as “Excellent Chinese Language Exam Centre” again

2022. March 17.

Our Institute had another successful year behind it, as it once again attained the certificate of “Excellent Chinese Language Exam Centre”. Hungary’s oldest and largest Chinese Cultural Institute first attained this renowned certificate last year. In 2021 this recognition was awarded by the CTI (Chinese Testing International Company) and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation. The title of “Excellent Chinese Language Exam Centre” was handed out to only a handful of Confucius Institutes out of 1201 places operating in 156 countries only 32 Institutes received this certification (11 in Europe). This year 76 Institutes were certified (25 in Europe). ELTE Confucius Institute is one of such Institutes.

Since its founding in 2006, in 15 years, ELTE Confucius Institute had a total of 4804 language examiners, amongst them 2759 HSK, 1277 HSKK, 763 YTC and 5 BCT language examiners.

On the topic of language exams, our Institute organised a BTC language exam for the second time in June 2021, with 3 exam takers. In 2021 due to the Coronavirus examinees also had the option of taking an exam from their home in the so called: „Online Home Edition HSK&HSKK Exam”, on HSK levels 3-5, and HSKK levels 1-3. 3-5- -3-as.

On the 24th of April 2021 40 students took these types of exams. Sadly, multiple in person exams had to be delayed, however in May, July and October of 2021 HSK and HSKK could be held, with 507 examinees. In 2021 there were two YCT exams organised, 69 people took these exams.

Prof Dr. Imre Hamar sinologist, ELTE Vice Rector of International Affairs, Director of ELTE Confucius Institute and ELTE Far-East Institute remarked last year: the organisation of language exams has an important role to play next to language teaching, as it provides feedback for students, teachers and parents of students alike, incentivising students to further their studies. Besides these notable points, Chinese language exams can provide extra points for national or international university applications or could be a requirement to the entry of certain universities, and possibly helping professional advancement. Moreover, the language exams organised by the Confucius Institutes are also important as they provide the backbone of several scholarships, as a basis to judge applicants of different Chinese language, Chinese language teacher and other studies-research scholarships.

Since its founding ELTE Confucius Institute also won the Hanban Excellence award multiple times as well as the Model Confucius Institute title, alongside the “Excellent Chinese Language Exam Centre” title.
