Let’s tie a knot! – Chinese knotting

Knotting is an acknowledged form of art in China, an organic part of everyday life. The Chinese have been making various kinds of knot for centuries, both for practical and decorative purposes: to celebrate events, for fishing, as good-luck symbols for hunting, for wrapping or fastening, decorating clothes or ornamenting works of folk art. These works of art made with complicated knotting techniques and in wonderful colour combinations not only lend the objects unique elegance, but at the same time carry good wishes: they symbolise good luck, wealth, love, marriage and so on.
