Concerto Budapest on Chinese tour

2015. január 01.

Concerto Budapest, the resident orchestra of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy, gave successful concerts in four Chinese cities during the end of December and the beginning of January. The orchestra had already visited China, precisely Guangzhou, where it had the opportunity to perform in the famous National Grand Theatre designed by Zaha Hadid. The recent invitation is obviously largely due to the success the orchestra achieved on that visit. This time people could listen to the artists in Guangzhou, Xiamen and Zhuhai. The tour ended on the January 3 in Shanghai, where the audience rewarded conductor András Keller and the members of the orchestra with a standing ovation.

This tour focused on some very basic works of European musical culture, including Beethoven’s 4th symphony and Dvorak’s well-known 9th symphony: The New World. In the second half of the concerts the artists played the most popular pieces from Viennese New Year‘s Concerts, among them the Blue Danube Waltz, the Emperor Waltz or The Bat by Johann Strauss. The orchestra also prepared some extra pieces, which proved very useful especially at the end of the last concert, when the audience recalled the artists for five encores.

Concerto Budapest has already started to prepare its next Chinese tour for the autumn of 2015 with a new member, Andrea Rost. The orchestra would also like to introduce a new young talent, Mihály Boros, to the Chinese audience.
