Wan Gang’s visit at the ELTE Confucius Institute in Hungary

2014. augusztus 12.

On 12 August, Professor Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chairman of the China Zhi Gong Party, and Minister of Science and Technology, accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Hungary, visited the ELTE Confucius Institute in Budapest. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Barna Mezey, Rector of Eötvös Loránd University and Dr. Imre Hamar, director of the ELTE Confucius Institute.

The two sides held talks on the current status of the Confucius Institute and the possibilities of future development. Dr. Mezey said that, with the support of Hanban, the ELTE Confucius Institute has made remarkable progress in teaching the Chinese language and making Chinese culture more popular in Hungary. The Rector also noted that he hopes Professor Wan’s visit will be a start for further cooperation between Chinese universities and ELTE. Professor Wan praised Hungary for its achievements in both science and technology, and expressed his hope that the Confucius Institute will continue to play an important part in strengthening Chinese-Hungarian relations.

After the talks, the two parties exchanged gifts. The ELTE Confucius Institute presented Professor Wan with a Chinese knotting of the emblem of the Confucius Institutes, while the Institute received a piece of Chinese calligraphy.
