A pinch of China On Sturday, April 27th, 2013 a cultural day organised jointly by SINOSZ (National Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) and the Confucius Institute took place for the deaf and hearing-impaired.

In the garden of SINOSZ’ centre in Budapest craft activities were held by the teachers and voluntary students of the Confucius Institute: visitors could try their hands at calligraphy, paper cutting and knotting.

Some activities were especially offered for children, such as candy fishing with chopsticks, making lanterns and face painting. Apart from these, everybody could taste Chinese teas and put on traditional Chinese clothes.

The event was opened by the lion dancers of the Hungarian Chan Wu association and Dr Imre Hamar. Later, participants could learn, among other things, about the Chinese architectural heritage and the situation of the Chiese deaf and hard of hearing in a lecture by Dr Gábor Kósa.

The programmes were translated by sign language communication helpers and sign language interpreters.
