On 2 October, Friday, an all-day event will take place on campus. Visitors can see all the faculties and institutes of ELTE represented and get more information about them.

Apart from sample lessons, this year the university would also like to organize some programs, therefore the organizers invited ELTE Confucius Institute to be present and offer various kinds of activities. From 10 am to 4 pm we wait the visitors with programs that can bring closer the colourful Chinese culture to everybody: Chinese knotting, calligraphy, trying on authentic Chinese dresses, and Chinese tea tasting.



Confucius Day

26 September, 2015, Saturday, 14:00 – 16:00

Location: ELTE BTK Campus, Budapest, Múzeum krt. 4.

We offer various interesting programs in the afternoon on the campus of the university. The Dragon Sword Association will perform kungfu and lion dance shows, our guests will have the chance to learn calligraphy, Chinese paper-cutting and Chinese knotting. Visitors can also play ping-pong with our Chinese teachers. Those who get exhausted on such a busy day can taste very authentic Chinese food provided by Nine Dragons Restaurant and delicious Chinese teas offered by Levél Teaház.


Confucius Day Gala

26 September, 2015, Saturday, 19:00 – 21:00

Location: ELTE ÁJK, Aula Magna Ceremonial Hall, 1053 Budapest, Egyetem tér 1-3.

In the framework of the Gala the Art Group of Beijing Foreign Studies University will give spectacular performances. The art group will perform authentic dances and songs, Beijing opera pieces and we can also see the very popular and mysterious face changing show, while instrumental and martial art performances will also have an important role during the evening.

Participation is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance!
Tickets are available from September at the reception of ELTE Confucius Institute (Monday - Thursday 10:00-18:00, on Fridays 10:00-15:30)!

His hobby, which has already become his passion, is basically Chinese tea itself. During his studies in Qiandao and Changchun, and thanks to his travels close to the Silk Road, in Mongolia and in Russia, he had the chance to taste all kinds of tea. He realised that in the West, people have extremely different perceptions. Therefore, during his lecture, he hopes to ‘enlighten’ the audience about the values of tea culture, its origins, effects and the misunderstandings surrounding it.

In Western culture it became popular during the 1960s, primarily because of Hong Kong martial art films and the charismatic figure of Bruce Lee. During our four-lesson course participants can learn the basics of kungfu and can get to know the ideology of this very spiritual sport.

The non-profit Child Rescue Charity Organization thinks it is very important to provide cultural programs for free to those families and children who have been living under very disadvantageous financial conditions.

Many of them have only one opportunity during the whole year to enjoy cultural events. This year ELTE Confucius Institute will take part in the Child Rescue Charity Organization’s Program, which has already become a tradition by now. With the help of our teachers, the participants can learn the basics of Chinese knotting, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese paper-cutting. They can also try the kungfu, practice the use of chopsticks, dress up in Chinese traditional clothes and paint traditional Chinese warrior masks to their faces. (The face paint is anti-allergen.)

This competition gives opportunity for the students studying Chinese to test their knowledge of Chinese language.

The competition consists of three rounds, the competitors have to answer questions about China, they have to prepare an artistic performance and they have to give a speech by heart about a given topic. The winner of the competition can take part in the final round which is held in China, and the top prize is a Chinese Scholarship.

Go has an approximately 4000-year history. According to the most accepted theories, in the beginning it was used as a way of predicting the future, later it slowly evolved into a game.
During the lecture, participants can get to know the history and the rules of go, and then they can try to play as well. It is worth making the effort, as winners of the game will be rewarded with gifts.
On 2 April a four-lesson Go course starts at ELTE Confucius Institute! We will inform you about the details soon!

The lecturer at this event is Melinda Pap, who graduated from Dharma Gate Buddhist College, then acquired her PhD at ELTE Faculty of Arts, Doctoral School of Sinology. Currently, she is an assistant professor at the ELTE Chinese Department. Her main field of research is Chinese Buddhism.

The opening event, the Family Day, will be held on Saturday 7 March. Visitors can take part in several colourful activities. With the help of the Hungarian-Chinese Bilingual Primary School and ELTE Confucius Institute, participants can learn the basics of Chinese paper cutting, Chinese knotting, using chopsticks and calligraphy. For children we offer face painting and performances of Chinese traditional singing and dancing, and the lion dance. Organized by the Museum, visitors can take part in a unique and fascinating guided tour, called: The Secrets of Emperors.
